About the Event
At this event We will be hosting a range of workshops, guest speakers and round table discussions looking at the mental health and well-being of children and families within the bourough, the needs of families with children who have SEND and the support thats available both locally and nationally.
We will be bringing together parents, youth service practitioners, community leaders and health professionals to share stories so that we can learn from each other, provide awareness and to address any issues and concerns raised.
About Abbeywood & Thamesmead Black Parents Forum (ATBPF) is platfrom which has been set up to represent Abbeywood and Thamesmead parents and careers of children who live in or attend school in Abbeywood or the surrounding areas (Thamesmead, Erith, Plumstead, Woolwich and the boarders of Bexley).
Our aim is to bring parents, professionals and statutory officials together to work to effect change and improve the life chances of local children of African and Caribbean heritage by focusing on the following priority areas;
* CHILDREN:
Keep children safe
Reduce local youth crime
Keep children engaged in education
Shine a spotlight on youth related issues
* PARENTS:
Provide information, advocacy and training for parents in areas to include;
Positive parenting
Safeguarding children
How the UK education system works
*SCHOOLS
Offer parents advocacy and support with;
School exclusions
School admissions & entry tests
SEND outcomes
Provide training and support to increase the numbers of local black parent governors
*STAKEHOLDERS:
Impacting policy
Sharing of information
Shape and develop youth services
*YOUTH PROVISIONS:
Strengthen the capacity of local voluntary groups working with children
Develop culturally appropriate extracurricular provisions for children
Create a joint up approach among local youth service providers
